INGREDIENTS
For the pies
- 100g whole wheat or whole grain flour
- 65g ground oatmeal
- 80g unsweetened apple sauce
- 3-4 tbsp water
- Some butter for greasing
For the filling
- 50g blueberries
- 65g cooked chicken
DIRECTIONS
For the pies
1. Combine the flour and oatmeal in a bowl.
2. Add apple sauce to the dry ingredients and stir thoroughly.
3. Gradually add a few tablespoons of water, ensuring dough doesn’t get too sticky.
4. Time to get your hands messy! Bring the dough together so a ball can be easily formed. If the dough is too dry try adding more water. If it's too wet use a bit more flour.
5. Roll out the pie pastry.
6. Using a cutter or glass cut circles in the pastry.
7. Push these circles into a greased muffin tin.
8. Bake for around 8 minutes on 190°C (170°C fan-assisted oven).
For the filling
1. Blend blueberries in a blender.
2. Shred the chicken.
3. Combine blueberries and chicken in a bowl.
4. Spoon the filling mixture into the baked pies.
Make sure to always adjust your dog’s daily food allowance so they don’t gain weight while enjoying their delicious new snacks.
When buying applesauce make sure it has no added sweeteners like xylitol which is toxic to dogs.
Any new food should be added gradually to your dog's diet so they don't get a poorly tummy. Avoid giving your dog any foods that they are allergic or intolerant to, or if advised against by your vet.
