Who doesn’t love a hot drink when the temperature starts to drop? Whether you count the days until pumpkin spice lattes return or you love a classic hot chocolate, you can now share a version of 1 your favourite with your dog! We have pulled together 5 pawsome recipes for dog-friendly hot drinks.
Note: all of these recipes are dog safe and have been altered for dogs. There is no chocolate or raw eggs in the below recipes that would usually call for these. You should not serve the human versions to your dog as some ingredients are toxic to dogs.
Pumpkin Spiced Latte
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons goat or unsweetened, unflavoured coconut milk
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- A pinch of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of coconut or goat milk yoghurt (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix the goat or coconut milk and cinnamon into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Pop the mixture into a bowl and top with yoghurt.
- You can store the extra mixture in a container in your fridge for up to 5 days.
Gingerbread Latte
Ingredients:
- 225ml unsweetened, unflavoured coconut milk
- 1 tsp maple syrup or molasses
- ¼ tsp ground
- ¼ tsp ground Ceylon cinnamon
Instructions:
- Mix all the ingredients in a blender and serve
- If you want to serve it warm, pop it into a saucepan and heat on a low heat (ensure it is only lukewarm before serving to your dog).
Pup-nog
Ingredients:
- 120ml unsweetened, unflavoured coconut milk
- 120ml plain Greek Yogurt
- ½ tbsp honey (raw and unfiltered is best)
- ¼ to ½ tsp cinnamon
Instructions:
- Blend all the ingredients in a blender and serve with a pinch of cinnamon on top
Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 350ml unsweetened, unflavoured coconut milk
- 2 tbsp carob powder
- 2 tbsp honey
Instructions:
- Heat the coconut milk in a small saucepan over a low heat
- Add the carob powder and stir until combined
- Once combined, take off the heat and leave it to cool. Once it is lukewarm you can serve to your dog
Peppermint Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 peppermint tea bag
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup unsweetened, unflavoured coconut milk
- 1 ice cube tray
Instructions:
- Make a cup of peppermint tea and leave the teabag for 5 minutes
- Pour the tea into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight
- When you are ready to make the drink, take 4 of the peppermint ice cubes and add to a blender. Crush them slightly
- Add coconut milk and blend until you have the desired consistency
- Serve to your dog!
Any new food should be added gradually to your dog's diet so they don't get a poorly tummy. And make sure to always adjust your dog’s daily food allowance so they don’t gain weight while enjoying their delicious new snacks. Avoid giving your dog any foods that they are allergic or intolerant to, or if advised against by your vet.
