Did you know that November is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month? As peanut butter is a dog-friendly sweet treat (just make sure you avoid any containing the artificial sweetener xylitol which can be toxic to dogs) why not celebrate with some fun games and treats that are all peanut butter related!
You should always give your dogs treats in moderation so pick a couple of these and spread them out over the month. However, there are some added health benefits of peanut butter so it’s a pretty pawsome treat for your pup.
If you are borrowing a dog you should check with the owner whether peanut butter or any of the ingredients listed below are suitable for the dog.
Peanut Butter Games
Peanut butter filled kong
This game is really simple but will keep your dog entertained and distracted for a while! All you need to do is take a kong and lay a thick layer of peanut butter around the inner hole of the toy. Once you’ve done this, you can give it to your dog immediately or, you can freeze it for a popsicle style treat! They will be entertained trying to get to the peanut butter for a while so it’s a great trick for when you need a little bit of peace and quiet.
Fill a water bottle with treats or pieces of biscuit from recipes
In this article, we have some great recipes that are made using peanut butter. Why not take one of those treats, break them into little pieces and place them into an empty, plastic water bottle? If you have an active pup or to give them some mental stimulation, this is a great way to do so. They will have to figure out how to tip the bottle in order to get the treats out and then they are rewarded with a delicious morsel.
If you’re feeling creative feel free to give this DIY spinning toy a go too!
Frozen peanut butter on a lick mat
If you have a lick mat then a super simple way of entertaining your dog while offering them a treat is to put a thin layer of peanut butter across a lick mat. You can also freeze it for an extra challenge if you wish.

Any new food should be added gradually to your dog's diet so they don't get a poorly tummy. And make sure to always adjust your dog’s daily food allowance so they don’t gain weight while enjoying their delicious new snacks. Avoid giving your dog any foods that they are allergic or intolerant to, or if advised against by your vet.
We hope you have a fabulous peanut butter lovers month and have fun with your pooch! Make sure to tag us in your photos if you try any of these with your borrowed dogs as we always love to see them.
